Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Marla Gibbs showed up. Her role on The Jeffersons brought the actress the greatest fame. She stepped back into the spotlight for her return to the red carpet after a period of relative obscurity.

The Jeffersons is where Marla Gibbs first gained fame. Episodes of the CBS sitcom ran from 1975 to 1985. Gibbs made an appearance in no less than 207 episodes throughout his tenure as a series regular.

The show’s stellar cast earned her multiple nominations, including Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, and TV Land awards.

For her role as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, she was honored with the NAACP Image Award. Gibbs manages to keep up her acting, singing, writing, and juggling careers. Acting as Florence Johnston on The Jeffersons, though, was unquestionably the thing that made her famous.

She made an appearance during the red carpet event for the 2024 Emmy Awards. A stunning black gown adorned with rhinestones and white gems framed her figure. She opted for a short hairstyle that framed her face, allowing her delicate makeup and exquisite jewels to steal the show.

As Quinta Brunson, writer and performer of Abbott Elementary, accepted the award for supporting actress in a limited anthology series or movie, Gibbs was there to offer her congratulations. Niecy Nash-Betts was named the winner.

The crowd started cheering as soon as they saw Gibbs walk onto the stage to give the award. Obviously, the mere sight of a living legend caused the audience to go absolutely wild! Even at 92 years old, the actress continues to captivate audiences with her stunning good looks.

Quinta Brunson, who was overjoyed to be able to deliver the award beside a living Hollywood star, was the most enthralled and thrilled of all.

Gibbs was significant to Brunson, and she made sure everyone knew it. She went on to say that her profession had “literally spanned decades.” She made note of Gibbs’s continued involvement in the profession, noting that her roster is consistently busier than that of someone a third her age.

Gibbs made light of the situation by making a joke. She remarked, “That’s easy, baby: the wage gap,” before joking that she had “20 more years” to put in at the office before saving for retirement. With the joke “Black don’t crack!” she included, she went on to suggest that Brunson should pen an audition for a part she could play on Abbott Elementary.

Getting Gibbs to appear on the show would be an accomplishment in and of itself, given how packed her calendar appeared to be. In 1968’s Yours, Mine and Ours, Gibbs had her debut role, though she was uncredited. Ever since then, she’s been rather busy with the industry. She has been rather busy since then, making appearances in a plethora of movies and TV shows. She had guest appearances on Grey’s Anatomy, Spirit Halloween: The Movie, and Bromates in 2022.
