There was a time, and not at all that long ago, when the prospect of Prince William and Kate Middleton having any sort of amicable reunion with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was not just unlikely, it was unthinkable.
Given the explosive accusations and the no-holds-barred approach Harry and Meghan have taken with regards to besmirching the name and reputation of the British Royal Family, it’s hardly a surprise that two of the monarchy’s most senior members have distanced themselves from the Sussexes.
Indeed, reports over the past year have outlined that Will and Kate would not be entertaining the idea of meeting Harry and Meghan if the latter couple were to travel to the UK. This in spite of rumors that King Charles was aiming to bring Harry back into the fold in order to spend more time with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Of course, much has happened in the royal sphere since the turn of the year, including Charles and Kate both having received cancer diagnoses.
Naturally it means that the order of things has been topsy-turvy of late, with the Princess of Wales virtually disappeared from the public eye, and information about their respective treatments and recoveries kept shtum.
Yet if new reports are to believed, Prince William and Kate Middleton are now willing to come to the table regarding a potential reconciliation with Harry and Meghan, with an anonymous insider having told Us Weekly that the Wales’s want to make amends for their three children.
“They want a relationship with Meghan and Harry, and they don’t want the acrimony to carry over to the next generation,” the source stated, as per the New York Post.
“Obviously, the Duke and Duchess want their kids to have a relationship with their cousins.”
Given that Harry and Meghan have had their base in Montecito, California for a few years now, it makes sense to assume that their children, Archie and Lilibet, have seen little of their cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Despite it being only natural that their parents would encourage a healthy relationship between the cousins, there are hurdles standing in the way, the biggest of which remains the simmering tensions between William and Kate and Harry and Meghan.
Whether or not they can ever let bygones be bygones remains to be seen, but there’s a strong sense – at least if you read the majority of royal-centric reports coming out of the UK – that William and Kate no longer trust the Sussexes after all that’s been said and done.
With that in mind, we wouldn’t hold our breath for any royal reunion unless there’s a monumental shift in the coming weeks/months. But I guess never say never is as good a stance as any.
